About the position

The Talent Acquisition Specialist I plays a crucial role in the recruitment process at the University of Rochester. This position is responsible for initiating, planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating recruitment strategies and activities that align with the recruitment needs of various divisions across the University. The specialist will advise departments on HR policies, procedures, and relevant state and federal regulations related to recruitment and hiring. The role requires a deep understanding of the recruitment needs of business units, necessitating meetings with requesting units to review work responsibilities and observe work sites to ensure a comprehensive understanding of requirements. In collaboration with business units and HR Business Partners, the Talent Acquisition Specialist will develop and execute effective recruitment strategies. These strategies will involve building and maintaining relationships with appropriate recruitment sources to attract qualified and diverse candidates. The specialist will utilize various advertising methods and social media platforms, as well as develop partnerships with schools and programs that produce qualified graduates. The recruitment process includes screening candidates, performing reference and background checks, and determining eligibility for hire or rehire before referring candidates to department managers. The specialist will conduct interviews for qualified applicants in conjunction with requesting departments, sharing interview summary notes related to qualifications before and after each interview. They will keep all parties informed about the progress of recruitment and placement efforts, making official offers of appointment, including starting salaries, within established compensation plans. Additionally, the specialist will provide guidance to departments on University policies and procedures, ensuring that hiring managers are well-informed about the recruitment process. As a representative of the University, the Talent Acquisition Specialist will participate in recruitment events within the community, schools, and employment agencies. They will collaborate with the Equal Opportunity Director and staff to support departments in sourcing and hiring efforts that produce diverse candidate pools, fulfilling the University's Affirmative Action obligations. Maintaining records and providing reports of activities and statistics to department managers, HR partners, and leaders is also a key responsibility of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and plan recruitment strategies to support the needs of various divisions across the University.
  • Meet with requesting units to review work responsibilities and observe work sites to understand recruitment needs.
  • Develop and execute recruitment strategies in collaboration with business units and HR Business Partners.
  • Build and maintain relationships with recruitment sources for qualified and diverse candidates.
  • Utilize effective advertising and social media for recruitment purposes.
  • Develop relationships with schools and programs that graduate qualified candidates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong understanding of HR policies, procedures, and state and federal regulations related to recruitment and hiring.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with recruitment sources and candidates.
  • Experience in utilizing social media and advertising for recruitment purposes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for conducting interviews and counseling applicants.
