About the position

The Talent Acquisition Specialist at the University of Minnesota will support the recruitment process by performing administrative tasks, collaborating with hiring managers, and providing candidates with updates. This role functions as a junior recruiter, ensuring smooth process handoffs and maintaining a detailed understanding of job requirements across the university. The position also involves assisting with diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, supporting background checks, and engaging in professional development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform talent acquisition-related administrative work and support recruiters and hiring managers.
  • Provide candidates with status updates throughout the recruitment process.
  • Approve requisitions before posting and support the priority hire program as needed.
  • Conduct minimum qualification screening for Civil Service and Labor Represented positions.
  • Collaborate closely with hiring managers and talent acquisition colleagues to ensure smooth process handoffs.
  • Maintain a detailed understanding of jobs and associated requirements across the university.
  • Assist in drafting DEI-focused postings and advertisements.
  • Represent the University at job fairs and other recruitment activities.
  • Support the Background Check Coordinator with adjudication and management of background checks.
  • Complete professional development and training activities relevant to job responsibilities.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in human resources or a related field and/or a combination of education and experience to equal at least four years.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with full-cycle recruiting.
  • Experience with applicant tracking systems.
  • Knowledge of background check processes and relocation support.
  • Professional HR certifications (PHR, SHRM, AIRS).
  • Higher education or equivalent experience.
