About the position

The Talent Acquisition Specialist at The Art Institute of Chicago plays a crucial role in shaping the workforce by developing and implementing effective recruiting and staffing strategies. This position is designed to attract a diverse pool of qualified candidates for various open positions, including those that are hard to fill, managerial, and executive roles. The specialist will be responsible for all phases of the recruitment process, ensuring that the organization not only finds the right talent but also fosters an inclusive hiring environment that reflects the values of the Institute. In this hybrid role, the Talent Acquisition Specialist will collaborate closely with department managers to draft detailed and accurate job descriptions and hiring criteria. They will assist in forming search committees, screening applicants, and participating in the interview process as needed. Building and maintaining relationships with referral sources, particularly those focused on diversity recruitment, will be a key aspect of this role. The specialist will employ creative sourcing strategies to identify and attract qualified talent, ensuring that the recruitment methods align with industry standards and the specific needs of the organization. Additionally, the specialist will oversee the job posting and advertisement processes, making recommendations on the most effective advertising strategies. They will screen applications, select qualified candidates, and schedule interviews, ensuring that all necessary materials are prepared. Throughout the hiring process, the specialist will work closely with hiring managers to negotiate salary ranges, start dates, and other pertinent details, while ensuring compliance with all relevant employment laws and regulations. Responsibilities

  • Facilitates and implements all phases of the recruitment process
  • Collaborates with department managers to identify and draft detailed and accurate job descriptions and hiring criteria
  • Assists in the development of search committees, screens applicants and participates in the interview process as needed
  • Develops and cultivates relationships with referral sources (i.e., diversity recruitment sources, etc.)
  • Sources candidates and uses creative strategies to find qualified talent
  • Identifies and implements efficient and effective recruiting methods and strategies based on the available role, industry standards, and the needs of the organization
  • Assists with job posting and advertisement processes. Makes recommendations on the most effective advertising strategies
  • Screens applications and selects qualified candidates
  • Schedules interviews; oversees preparation of interview questions and other hiring and selection materials
  • Assists with the interview process, attending and conducting interviews with hiring managers and other stakeholders
  • Collaborates with the hiring manager and/or other human resource staff during the offer process, identifying and recommending salary ranges, start dates, and other pertinent details
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and company policies

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, human resources, a related field, or equivalent years of experience
  • 5+ years of experience in recruiting or human resources
  • Experience with the recruitment and hiring process
  • Human resources certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP) is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience using good research techniques
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to negotiate with candidates and hiring managers towards a mutual agreeable solution
  • Ability to create and implement sourcing strategies for recruitment for a variety of roles
  • Proactive and independent with the ability to take initiative
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with laws, regulations, and best practices applicable to hiring and recruitment
  • Proficient with or the ability to learn quickly applicant-tracking software or other recruitment system
  • Ability to make objective decisions using sound judgment
