About the position

The Universal Banker Trainee position at Midland States Bank is designed for individuals who are eager to deliver exceptional customer experiences while gaining knowledge in banking products and services. This role involves effective communication, customer service, and the ability to identify customer needs through needs-based questioning. Trainees will work under supervision until they demonstrate proficiency in placing customers in the right mix of products and services, ultimately contributing to the bank's performance and production goals.

Responsibilities

• Deliver excellent customer experiences to current and potential customers.
• Exhibit effective communication skills and knowledge of banking products and services.
• Offer referral opportunities to enhance customer service outcomes.
• Receive cash and checks for deposit, verifying amounts and endorsements.
• Examine cash to guard against counterfeit bills.
• Cash checks for customers in accordance with bank policy and issue receipts.
• Balance cash drawer throughout the day to minimize teller differences.
• Identify correct product types through needs-based questioning to build customer relationships.
• Assist with basic deposit account openings and maintenance requests under supervision.
• Develop sales and product knowledge to achieve personal and team goals.
• Participate in onsite visits to promote Employee Perks at Work Program & Merchant Services.
• Engage in outbound teleconsulting to expand client relationships.
• Participate in weekly huddles and one-on-one coaching sessions.
• Serve as relief and/or backup teller in other locations as needed.
• Complete all assigned learning activities in a timely manner.
• Model the bank's core values and participate in community activities.
• Maintain compliance with applicable regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).

Requirements

• Sales and customer service background.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to lift and transport coin and currency bags weighing between 25lbs and 50lbs.
