About The Position

The City of Worcester is seeking a qualified Talking Book Assistant for the Worcester Public Library. This full-time position involves assisting with circulation, providing reader's advisory services, and delivering exemplary customer service to patrons using the Talking Book Library services. The role includes supervising audio material recording, maintaining the collection, and ensuring a positive experience for a diverse community. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to serving an urban population.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of data entry experience and/or community public service work, such as library or bookstore experience.
  • Ability to successfully pass CORI/SORI background checks.
  • Reliable transportation to travel between locations.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of supervisory experience.
  • One year of experience working with diverse communities in an urban environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with circulation functions using automated systems such as KLAS, BARD, and Duplication on Demand.
  • Perform reader's advisory duties.
  • Stay updated on library operations and communications.
  • Attend meetings, conferences, and training as assigned.
  • Provide exemplary customer service to patrons.
  • Assist in evaluating existing operations and new services with supervisors.
  • Train staff in Talking Book Library procedures.
  • Supervise the recording studio when assigned.
  • Maintain collection and stacks.
  • Register new patrons and maintain records in the Integrated Library System (ILS).
  • Organize, sort, and shelve circulating materials.
  • Identify and process problem items from the collection.
  • Develop familiarity with adaptive equipment and assist patrons as needed.
  • Stay informed of professional trends and emerging technology.
  • Interpret library services and policies to patrons clearly and courteously.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment and open communication.
  • Participate in staff development and training opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
