Tanker Driver/Operator

About the position

The Tanker Driver/Operator is an entry-level position responsible for assisting the Lead Tanker Driver/Operator in operating a vacuum truck and cleaning the storm conveyance system. The role involves transporting materials and equipment for construction and maintenance of county infrastructure while adhering to safety regulations and guidelines. The position requires cleaning and maintaining assigned equipment and performing various maintenance tasks under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Tanker Driver/Operator with the operation of the vacuum truck.
• Transport materials, supplies, and equipment to job sites in accordance with traffic codes and safety regulations.
• Haul refined fuels to job sites and handle medium complexity work activities using the vacuum truck.
• Perform pre-winter, winter, spring, and summer maintenance on roads under guidance.
• Conduct storm sewer daily maintenance checks and activities.
• Enter, track, and update work-performed data in the AED electronic data management system.
• Maintain inventory and perform daily maintenance checks on equipment.
• Clean heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• No prior experience required.
• Proficient knowledge of truck and equipment safety.
• Knowledge of road construction and maintenance techniques.
• Familiarity with operation of heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, dozers, graders, and compactors.
• Ability to operate single axle trucks safely and responsibly.
• Ability to read and write to maintain daily records.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Valid state operator/driver's license with a good driving history.

Nice-to-haves

• Ability to obtain a CDL class 'A' driver's license within 12 months of employment.
• Ability to obtain hazmat or tanker endorsements to CDL within 18 months of employment.
