About the position

The Tankerman Trainee position at Genesis Marine involves training and performing various operational, maintenance, housekeeping, and safety duties on marine vessels. The role is essential for ensuring safe and efficient marine transportation of liquid cargoes, primarily serving refineries and storage terminals. The trainee will work under the supervision of the Master and will be responsible for learning the necessary skills to operate and maintain the vessels effectively.

Responsibilities

• Making up the tow and assisting the vessel and tow in making locks.
• Dropping, spotting, and switching barges at docks.
• Standing lookout or riding the head of the tow as a lookout.
• Performing maintenance tasks such as chipping and painting the vessel and tow.
• Repairing flame screens, cleaning P/V valves, and greasing winches as per the barge maintenance checklist.
• Dewatering the barges as necessary and troubleshooting barge problems.
• Cleaning the boat and quarters, including personal quarters and the wheelhouse.
• Reporting any hazardous or unsafe conditions to the Master and making corrections when capable.

Requirements

• Ability to train on barge transfers including loads and discharges from start to finish.
• Ability to learn and demonstrate knowledge of heater operation, hose handling, and barge maintenance.
• Strong work ethic.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid Driver's License and TWIC card.
