About the position

The Tax Accountant 1 position at Pan-American Life Insurance Group is responsible for preparing and filing various state and municipal insurance premium tax returns, along with other necessary insurance data filings. This role is based in New Orleans, LA, and offers a hybrid work environment with flexibility in work hours, promoting a balance between professional and personal commitments. The position may require increased availability during peak periods.

Responsibilities

• Prepare annual insurance premium tax returns for two Louisiana insurance companies.
• Prepare journal entries to record premium tax transactions.
• Reconcile premium tax expenses in the general ledger.
• Prepare premium tax estimates to be filed throughout the year.
• Process payment requests for premium tax returns.
• Process and mail or eFile all returns.
• Prepare annual data reports to states as required.
• Process payment requests for assessments based on data reports.
• Prepare city/parish/municipality insurance premium tax returns.
• Process payment requests for all municipal returns.
• Prepare journal entries for refunds, payments, and miscellaneous items.
• Process check requests for Tax department invoices.
• Process purchase requests for Tax department.
• Provide accounting support for Tax Department account reconciliations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field required (an additional 8 years of accounting experience may be substituted in lieu of degree).
• Experience with Microsoft Office suite products, especially Excel.
• Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
• Effective communication in both written and verbal manner.
• Skilled in dealing with financial and numeric data.
• Ability to plan and prioritize tasks to ensure deadlines are met.
• Ability to work harmoniously with others to get results.
