About the position

The Tax Accountant 1 position at Pan-American Life Insurance Group (PALIG) is responsible for preparing and filing various state and municipal insurance premium tax returns, along with other insurance data filings. This role is based in the New Orleans, LA office and offers flexibility in work hours, promoting a healthy work-life balance. The position may require on-campus presence one to two days per week and includes peak periods that necessitate increased availability.

Responsibilities

• Prepare annual insurance premium tax returns for two Louisiana insurance companies.
• Prepare journal entries to record premium tax transactions.
• Reconcile premium tax expenses in the general ledger.
• Prepare premium tax estimates to be filed throughout the year.
• Process payment requests for premium tax returns and estimates.
• Process and mail or eFile all returns and data reports.
• Prepare annual data reports to states as required based on insurance company financial reports.
• Prepare city/parish/municipality insurance premium tax returns.
• Process payment requests for all municipal returns.
• Prepare journal entries for refunds, payments, and miscellaneous items.
• Process check requests for Tax department invoices and purchase requests.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field required (or 8 years of accounting experience in lieu of a degree).
• Knowledge of or ability to learn and use company financial systems and modules.
• Experience with Microsoft Office suite products, especially Excel.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
• Effective communication skills in both written and verbal forms.
• Skilled in dealing with financial and numeric data.
• Ability to plan and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work harmoniously with others and respond positively to instructions and procedures.
• Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and integrity.
