We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Tax Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in tax accounting with a focus on the construction industry. You will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and filing complex tax returns, providing tax planning and consulting services, and ensuring that our clients comply with all relevant tax laws and regulations. This role requires a deep understanding of the tax implications specific to construction activities, including job costing, project accounting, and multi-state tax issues.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for construction clients, including corporations, partnerships, and individuals.
  • Analyze financial information and ensure accurate reporting of income, expenses, and deductions related to construction projects.
  • Provide strategic tax planning and consulting services to clients, helping them minimize tax liabilities and optimize cash flow.
  • Advise clients on tax implications of construction contracts, change orders, and project financing.
  • Research and stay up-to-date on tax laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting the construction sector.
  • Assist clients with tax audits and represent them before tax authorities as needed.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to develop tax strategies that align with business goals.
  • Maintain detailed and organized records of tax filings and other related documents.
  • Identify potential tax credits and incentives specific to the construction industry, such as the Research and Development (R&D) tax credit.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior staff on construction-specific tax issues and compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in tax accounting, with a strong focus on the construction industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations as they apply to construction businesses.
  • Experience with job costing, project accounting, and understanding of construction contracts and revenue recognition.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to clients.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and tax preparation tools.
