About the position

The Tax Accountant position at Kohari Gonzalez Oneyear & Brown PLLC is a full-time role that requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong background in accounting and tax preparation. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field, with a CPA designation preferred. This role is designed for a mid-level professional with three to five years of experience in industry and/or public accounting, particularly in financial statement reporting and corporate tax preparation. The Tax Accountant will be responsible for preparing and reviewing monthly financial reporting packages for clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP standards. In this position, the Tax Accountant will prepare and post adjusting journal entries in Accounting CS and/or QuickBooks to organize tax files for preparation. They will also identify and organize client documentation, coordinating with clients or internal staff to obtain any missing information. The role involves preparing detailed workpapers to summarize data for tax preparation, calculating book vs. tax differences, and preparing tax projections for planning purposes. The Tax Accountant will maintain client fixed asset listings and prepare Federal and State Corporate, Partnership, Trust, and Individual income tax returns. Additionally, the Tax Accountant will review the accuracy of tax returns, identify potential tax savings strategies, and communicate these to management. Responding to client inquiries and notices from the Internal Revenue Service and state and local tax authorities is also a key responsibility. The role may require providing support on ad-hoc requests and related special projects, while maintaining compliance with all work standards to reduce risk exposure for the firm.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and/or review monthly financial reporting packages for clients.
  • Prepare and post adjusting journal entries in Accounting CS and/or QuickBooks as needed to organize the tax file for preparation.
  • Identify and organize client documentation.
  • Coordinate with clients or internal staff to obtain missing information.

  • Prepare Federal and State Corporate, Partnership, Trust and Individual income tax returns.
  • Review accuracy of tax returns and identify and communicate potential tax savings strategies to management.
  • Respond to client inquiries, Internal Revenue Service and state and local tax authority notices.
  • Provide support on ad-hoc requests and related special projects, as required.
  • Maintain and comply with all work standards reducing risk exposure for the firm.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Three to five years of industry and/or public accounting experience.
  • At least 2 years of financial statement reporting and corporate tax preparation experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate with clients, management, and peers.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with highly sensitive information.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Fundamental knowledge of GAAP.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online software programs.
  • Experience with Thomson Reuters Accounting CS, Fixed Assets CS, and UltraTax CS software preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite required.
