About the position

We are HRAIT/aiTWorks, an employment agency, seeking a Tax Accountant for a Japanese food specialty trading company located in Santa Fe Springs, CA. This is a hybrid position where the candidate will initially be required to work in the office every day for the first 3 to 5 months for training purposes. After the training period, the company mandates a minimum of 2 days in the office, although this may vary based on the manager's discretion. The role involves preparing and filing various tax returns, including monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, and annual sales/use tax returns, as well as business tax returns and personal property tax returns. The Tax Accountant will also be responsible for reviewing sales tax codes for new products, preparing corporate estimated income tax payment orders, and assisting in responding to tax notices and inquiries from tax authorities. Additionally, the role includes managing customers' resale certificates and sales tax software updates, while maintaining adequate records to support tax positions. This position is ideal for new graduates, although candidates with 3+ years of general accounting experience, including bookkeeping and taxation, are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and files monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, and annual sales/use tax returns.
  • Prepares and files monthly, quarterly, and annual business tax returns.
  • Prepares and files annual business personal property tax returns and processes payments.
  • Reviews assigned sales tax codes for new products.
  • Prepares corporate estimated income tax payment orders.
  • Assists in responding to tax notices and/or information requests from tax authorities.
  • Assists in responding to branch inquiries regarding customers' invoices.
  • Assists in managing customers' resale certificates.
  • Assists in managing sales tax software monthly updates.
  • Assists with other tax projects as assigned.
  • Maintains adequate records and work papers to support tax positions.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of general accounting experience (including bookkeeping, AP, AR) or taxation.
  • General accounting knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to learn ERP systems such as Oracle.
  • Intermediate knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • English/Japanese bilingual is a plus.
  • Detail-oriented and able to prepare accurate work papers.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Possess integrity, be trustworthy, dependable, and a team player.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to meet aggressive deadlines and juggle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work well in collaborative group environments.
