About the position

As a Tax Accountant I, you will play a crucial role in our tax department by assisting in the preparation and analysis of various tax records and reports, including federal and state income tax, sales and use tax, and property tax. This position involves preparing monthly and quarterly journal entries to accurately record the accounting for income taxes in our financial statements. You will be working under close supervision, utilizing established procedures and methodologies to ensure compliance with tax regulations and company policies. In this hybrid-remote role, you will be expected to reside in Wisconsin and report to our Madison office. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of tax records, returns, reports, and other regulated materials using established procedures and methodologies.
  • Analyze and review tax records and reports under close supervision.
  • Prepare source input, parameter tables, and other details of the tax accounting system, tax reports, and other accounting-related reports following standard practices and procedures.
  • Make recommendations for tax accounting adjustments and procedural changes while ensuring compliance with company procedures and various federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Research issues related to the application of generally accepted accounting principles and regulatory accounting requirements as they pertain to utility tax information under the instruction of the manager.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks that require a fundamental understanding of tax rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in Accounting.
  • Master's degree or progress towards a Master's in Tax or Accounting is preferred.
  • CPA or CPA eligible status is preferred.
  • Knowledge of common accounting software applications is preferred.
  • Understanding of tax depreciation methods and lives; ability to reconcile book/tax basis differences is required.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).
  • Ability to work in a diverse work environment.

Nice-to-haves
