About the position

Hamilton Tharp is seeking a motivated and career-driven Staff Tax Accountant II to join their team in Solana Beach, CA. This role involves direct interaction with clients to assist with their accounting, tax, and financial needs, providing an opportunity for professional growth in a supportive environment. Responsibilities

  • Know and understand the Firm's policies and procedures.
  • Correctly and consistently perform assigned accounting procedures.
  • Provide valuable assistance to clients in payroll preparation and monitor compliance.
  • Provide assistance and training to staff members.
  • Provide insightful and correct advice on basic financial and accounting matters.
  • Accurately interpret simple data and provide detailed information to management as needed.
  • Begin to understand and participate in budget preparation.
  • Skillfully review own work product before sending to others for review; catch errors consistent with a Staff Accountant II level.
  • Keep supervisor informed of all important developments in client engagements.
  • Proficiently process 1099's, sales tax returns, and business property tax statements.
  • Understand intermediate tax code sections and regulations and apply them correctly and consistently.
  • Regularly read industry newsletters and attempt to stay current on tax legislation and interpretations.
  • Understand and effectively utilize basic tax planning techniques.
  • Correctly prepare intermediate corporate, individual, partnership, fiduciary, and other tax returns with some supervision.
  • Pull together client source documents in an organized way.
  • Research & Administration: Proficiently use the Firm's research tools.
  • Know how far to take research before asking for assistance.
  • Effectively prioritize workload.
  • Keep WIP updated daily and add projects as assigned.
  • Record time daily and accurately.
  • Submit weekly timesheets timely.
  • Be familiar with engagement and promptly notify supervisor when work is outside of scope.
  • Monitor own billable and administrative time to steadily move towards achieving expectations.
  • Supervise interns on specific projects and review work on Interns and Entry-Level Accountants.

Requirements

  • Accounting degree and close to obtaining CPA license.
  • Two to four years experience in public accounting.
  • Knowledge of pertinent IRC sections and regulations.
  • Understanding of the rules, requirements, and code of conduct of the AICPA and other government agencies.
  • High proficiency in Quickbooks, PCS, UltraTax, SurePrep, Word, EXCEL, and Outlook.
  • Able to train others on software applications.
  • Proficient in typing and 10-key by touch.
  • Experience with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in the Accounting field.
