About the position

This position is based in Gainesville and offers an exciting opportunity with a well-established public accounting firm. The ideal candidate will possess over three years of accounting and tax compliance experience, preferably within an accounting firm or a similar organization. The role primarily involves preparing tax returns for a diverse clientele, including individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts. The candidate will also be responsible for setting up trial balances and depreciation schedules for businesses, ensuring that all necessary tax adjustments are accurately calculated and applied. In addition to tax return preparation, the candidate will engage in direct communication with clients to discuss return preparation, tax planning, and various multifaceted tax issues. A critical aspect of the role is evaluating opportunities to minimize tax burdens through effective tax planning strategies. The candidate must stay informed about changes in tax law and assess how these changes impact our clients' financial situations. The position also requires performing tax research on complex tax issues and corresponding with federal, state, and local agencies regarding tax notices and requests. The candidate will facilitate IRS and state tax audits, ensuring compliance and addressing any inquiries from tax authorities. This role is integral to the firm's commitment to providing exceptional service and expertise in tax compliance and planning.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts.
  • Set up trial balances and depreciation schedules for businesses and work out necessary tax adjustments.
  • Communicate with clients regarding return preparation, planning, and multifaceted tax issues.
  • Evaluate opportunities to lessen tax burdens through tax planning.
  • Understand and evaluate changes in tax law and how clients are affected.
  • Perform tax research of complex tax issues.
  • Correspond and communicate with federal, state, and local agencies regarding tax notices and requests.
  • Facilitate IRS and State tax audits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • CPA or CPA Candidate
  • 3+ years prior public accounting experience
  • Experience with Lacerte
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
