As a Tax Accountant, you will ensure compliance with all sales and use tax, franchise tax, and business tax registration and filing requirements. Your expertise will be vital in maintaining precise tax records, analyzing complex tax data, and ensuring timely and accurate tax filings. You will prepare and file sales and use tax returns, manage exemption certificates, and handle tax notices with confidence. Your role will involve regular audits to ensure ongoing compliance and accuracy. You'll stay ahead of changes in tax laws and regulations, providing valuable insights and recommendations. Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with state and local sales and use tax regulations.
  • Prepare and file sales and use tax returns accurately and on time.
  • Monitor changes in sales and use tax laws and regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Manage and maintain sales tax exemption certificates to ensure accurate tax remittal and compliance.
  • Handle sales tax notices and correspond with tax authorities as needed.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate sales and use tax records and documentation in electronic files and third-party software.
  • Conduct regular audits of sales and use tax processes and records to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Analyze sales and use tax data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and prepare reports for management review.
  • Manage and file franchise tax returns in accordance with state requirements, coordinating with external tax return preparers as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with business tax registration and filing requirements, ensuring accurate tax accounting and reconciliation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in tax accounting, with a focus on sales and use tax, franchise tax, and business tax compliance.
  • Experience in a public accounting firm or corporate tax department preferred.
  • Experience navigating the sales, use, business and franchise tax requirements for a wholesaler or remote seller preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of state and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Proficient in tax software and accounting systems (e.g., InCorp, Infor M3, Vertex).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
