About the position

The Tax Accountant at Sofidel America plays a crucial role in maintaining tax compliance and conducting internal audits to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data. This position involves preparing tax returns, managing indirect taxes, and supporting the finance team in evaluating tax implications of business decisions. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge in tax and audit practices, with a focus on detail and proactive problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Assist tax consultant with the preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Manage indirect taxes, including sales, use, property, and excise taxes, ensuring timely and accurate filings.
  • Liaise with external tax advisors to assist in tax preparation, planning, and strategy.
  • Conduct internal audits to assess the accuracy and integrity of financial data and controls.
  • Provide necessary information and support during external audits.
  • Support the finance team in reviewing tax implications of business decisions.
  • Evaluate and assess validity of tax refunds, delinquent tax notices, and other correspondence.
  • Stay informed of changes in tax laws, regulations, and auditing practices.
  • Assist in preparing financial reports and presentations for senior management.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Investigate discrepancies and recommend improvements to mitigate financial risks.
  • Ad Hoc projects and reporting as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in tax preparation, auditing, or financial compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Experience with internal and external auditing practices and internal controls.
  • Proficiency in accounting and tax software (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
  • Expert in advanced Excel functions, with strong proficiency in data analytics tools such as Power BI, and other relevant platforms.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
