About the position

Warren Averett is seeking an experienced tax accountant for our Tampa, FL office. The ideal candidate will possess their CPA and have a minimum of 5 years of public accounting experience. This role is bonus eligible, and the salary is competitive, depending on experience. As a tax accountant, you will be responsible for reviewing complicated tax returns for privately held companies across various industries, including C-Corp, S-Corp, and Partnership experience. You will work closely with companies to effectively identify tax planning and risk management opportunities, assist in Federal and State audit examinations, and monitor RAR adjustments for state tax impact. Your role will also involve analyzing potential federal and state tax incentives and credits to maintain a low effective tax rate (ETR). You will be tasked with analyzing state tax sourcing of receipts to develop filing methodologies for various jurisdictions and will need to be aware of compliance risks outside of the financial industry's traditional tax obligations. Additionally, you will assist in sales use tax controversy, if any, and conduct tax risk assessments and mitigation, including the development of a structural assessment plan. You will review state tax provisions and state tax true-ups, participate in industry efforts and programs with colleagues and advisors, and assume responsibility for client contact, coordination within the company, staffing requirements, administrative documentation, and preparation timing for engagements. You will also work on special projects, oversee the activities of associates and senior associates, and develop and maintain quality client relationships. Furthermore, you will develop skills to attract new clients and market the company's services and products, facilitating the expansion of business with existing clients. SALT experience is a plus!

Responsibilities

  • Review complicated tax returns for privately held companies in a variety of industries (C-Corp, S-Corp, and Partnership experience preferred)
  • Work closely with companies to effectively identify tax planning and risk management opportunities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in public accounting
  • Possession of CPA
  • Excellent communication skills for interaction with staff and clients
  • Ability to provide guidance and direction to department staff who are not direct reports
