About the position

We are seeking the right skilled tax accountant to join our growing accounting firm. As a tax accountant, you will play a crucial role in helping individuals and businesses comply with their tax obligations. Your expertise and attention to detail will ensure accurate and timely preparation of tax returns, and you will provide valuable tax planning advice to minimize liabilities. This position is not remote, and you will be expected to work in person at our office located at 621 N Brindlee Mountain Pkwy, Arab, AL 35016. In this role, you will prepare individual, partnership, and corporate tax returns in compliance with current tax laws and regulations. You will conduct thorough reviews of financial statements and other supporting documentation to identify tax saving opportunities and potential errors. Additionally, you will provide tax planning and consulting services to clients, helping them make informed decisions and optimize their tax strategies. You will also assist with tax audits and respond to inquiries from tax authorities, ensuring that our clients are well-represented and informed throughout the process. Staying up-to-date with changes in tax laws and regulations is essential, as you will need to apply this knowledge to client cases as necessary. You will advise clients on the tax implications of transactions, such as real estate purchases, stock options, and mergers and acquisitions. Collaboration with other team members will be key to ensuring seamless integration of tax planning and compliance efforts, making your role vital to the success of our firm.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare individual, partnership, and corporate tax returns in compliance with current tax laws and regulations
  • Conduct thorough reviews of financial statements and other supporting documentation to identify tax saving opportunities and potential errors
  • Provide tax planning and consulting services to clients, helping them make informed decisions and optimize their tax strategies
  • Assist with tax audits and respond to inquiries from tax authorities
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in tax laws and regulations and apply them to client cases as necessary

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (preferred)
  • 2+ years proven experience working as a tax accountant, preferably in a public accounting firm or corporate tax department
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations
  • Strong proficiency in tax preparation software (Lacerte or QuickBooks a plus) and MS Office suite
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • High ethical standards and professionalism
