About the position

The Tax Business Partner Principal at De Beers Group is responsible for leading tax issues from a local perspective in the US and Canada, focusing on federal, state, and local taxes. This role involves identifying and managing tax risks and planning opportunities while providing world-class tax support to the business units. The principal will coordinate tax compliance obligations, deliver proactive tax advice, and manage relationships with tax authorities and government bodies. Additionally, the position requires maintaining professional tax knowledge and delivering tax training to business units.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the identification of tax risks and opportunities across the group.
  • Coordinate and manage the preparation and delivery of tax compliance obligations for De Beers US & Canada businesses.
  • Provide proactive tax advice to business units, identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Lead tax input on major local transactions including M&A and business development opportunities.
  • Manage the day-to-day relationship with business units as the face of Group Tax locally.
  • Ensure local implementation of the Global Group Tax Strategy and tax policies.
  • Review significant contracts and lead the relationship with Tax Authorities.
  • Deliver tax training to business units and maintain professional tax knowledge.
  • Support engagement with auditors on tax accounting calculations and tax reporting positions.
  • Manage tax authority correspondence and coordinate responses to audits.

Requirements

  • University degree in a relevant discipline preferred.
  • Chartered Accountant and/or Chartered Tax Adviser or other professional qualification.
  • Excellent knowledge of local and international tax principles, transfer pricing, and tax residence.
  • Ability to influence people and manage change effectively.
  • Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex tax analysis effectively to senior management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience from a Big Four background with significant corporate experience.
  • Technical background in financing and capital structure issues.
  • Experience in M&A activity.
