About the position

The Tax Director will lead and manage tax projects, ensuring effective client engagement and delivering tailored tax planning solutions. This role emphasizes building client relationships, managing audits, and providing mentorship to staff while maintaining a focus on work-life balance and professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute, direct, and complete tax projects to manage client engagements while controlling time and expenses.
  • Develop and deliver tax planning techniques for clients addressing their needs.
  • Identify new opportunities from potential and existing clients and recommend suitable additional services.
  • Communicate and interact with clients' advisors.
  • Support clients in managing state and federal tax audits and negotiate tax positions.
  • Recognize technical issues and perform research to reach appropriate conclusions.
  • Prepare tax memorandums on technical issues.
  • Prepare and review quarterly and annual income tax provisions while identifying and documenting uncertain tax positions.
  • Lead and supervise staff and seniors, providing career guidance.
  • Present internal and external training and seminars on technical issues.
  • Participate in mentoring, training, retention, and team-building activities.

Requirements

  • 6+ years working in upstream oil & gas space, exploration and production (E&P) with an understanding of the drilling process.
  • Public accounting compliance and advisory skills.
  • CPA Required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited university.
  • Experience in reviewing and preparing individuals, corporations, S-corporations, partnerships, consolidated, and state returns.
  • Proficiency with tax research and preparation software such as Go Systems, BNA Income Tax Planner, GoFileRoom, and Checkpoint or similar.
  • Experience in outbound and inbound transaction consulting, multi-national corporation experience, foreign tax credit utilization, tax minimization, and transfer pricing is preferred.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Strong supervisory, organizational, problem-solving, written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
