About the position

Moore Colson is seeking a dynamic Tax Director to join their Tax team in Atlanta. This role involves overseeing complex tax returns, managing a team of tax professionals, and ensuring compliance with federal and state tax laws. The Tax Director will also participate in client meetings and tax planning efforts, acting as a resource for tax preparers and specialists.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical tax review and approval of all tax returns and governmental tax examinations at all levels of complexity.
  • Ensure all federal and state income tax returns are prepared timely, accurately, and in compliance with applicable laws.
  • Delegate and manage tax research projects to achieve an accurate and efficient product.
  • Participate actively in client meetings and tax planning efforts to assist the Business Assurance Department with larger clients.
  • Act as a resource for tax preparers/specialists and Business Assurance Staff on specific tax issues and/or questions.
  • Assume client service responsibility for clients working directly with the clients when the responsibility is delegated from the Partner.
  • Communicate to the appropriate firm personnel important tax and tax developments affecting the firm's clients.
  • Supervise tax team and provide on-the-job training.
  • Assist the Business Assurance (Audit) Department with larger clients when deemed necessary.

Requirements

  • Current CPA license is required.
  • 8 years' experience in public accounting, demonstrating proven progression in tax return complexity, scope and research.
  • At least 2 years representing clients before taxing authorities.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience supervising and directing work of tax preparers.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent accounting hours required; Master's degree in Taxation preferred.
  • Minimum 40 hours of continuing education is required yearly.
  • Must be a member in good standing with the American Institute of CPAs.
  • Proficiency with CCH ProSystem fx Tax or other tax automation / workflow software is a plus.
