About the position

This is a non-exempt, hourly position without benefits, eligible to work up to 1,500 hours annually (May 1 - April 30). The role involves reviewing and processing a large volume of requests from various stakeholders regarding employer accounts, tax liability, and unemployment insurance (UI) benefits. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with UI tax laws, establishing new accounts, assigning experience ratings, responding to formal protests, processing changes, and providing updates to employer records. The position also requires accessing automated systems to review and update information, reconciling reports, and providing technical assistance to employers regarding electronic filing system issues.

Responsibilities

  • Review and process requests from employers, employer representatives, third party vendors, agency staff, and clients regarding employer accounts, tax liability, and unemployment insurance benefits.
  • Ensure compliance with UI tax laws and requirements.
  • Establish new accounts and assign experience ratings based on status to determine tax liability.
  • Respond to formal protests regarding tax rates and amounts due or paid.
  • Process changes such as name, acquisition, or merger status.
  • Prepare and distribute 940 certifications.
  • Provide updates to employer records.
  • Notify employers and appropriate tax staff of tax rate changes.
  • Access automated systems to review and update information.
  • Conduct research and make necessary adjustments to reconcile reports.
  • Provide technical assistance to employers regarding iReg/iFile issues.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic accounting practices and related payroll tax reporting requirements.
  • Strong organizational, customer service, analytical, problem solving, and computer skills.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data and review and reconcile information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work effectively with the public and agency staff.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in tax (computation, analysis, examination or reporting), accounting, finance, or payroll.
  • Experience working with accounting software programs.
