About the position

The Tax Examining Technician (Collection Due Process Associate) position at the Department of the Treasury involves reviewing and resolving complex tax cases. Responsibilities

• Review incoming cases for needed documents and completeness.
• Obtain and develop necessary documents to resolve complex issues.
• Analyze information provided by customers regarding their tax problems.
• Elicit additional information from taxpayers when necessary.
• Contact various agency offices for verification and clarification.
• Analyze taxpayer financial information to determine appropriate case action.
• Communicate available options and consequences to taxpayers and their representatives.
• Present the government's position and explain proposed settlements to taxpayers.
• Compose responses for official signatures explaining issues and resolutions.

Requirements

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, including knowledge of tax laws and collection techniques.
• Experience identifying and advising on tax-related issues and options available to taxpayers.
• Familiarity with online systems and research materials to resolve inquiries.

Nice-to-haves
