Responsibilities

• Resolve inquiries dealing with a variety of technical and/or complex procedural issues.
• Determine appropriate assignment and acknowledge receipt of inquiries.
• Review, analyze, and evaluate information provided by customers regarding tax problems or issues.
• Elicit additional information to clarify problems and contact third parties for verification.
• Process cases involving individual and/or business taxpayer inquiries, claims, and adjustments.
• Review completed case files for tax computations and procedural accuracy.
• Provide feedback to field personnel on the quality of work products.
• Monitor inventory through established and ad-hoc reports and databases.
• Update internal reporting systems to capture data on referrals received.
• Identify and anticipate problem areas, error trends, and systemic issues.

Requirements

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in Federal service.
• Experience with relevant tax laws, rules, and regulations, including individual and business tax law.
• Experience identifying the nature and scope of tax problems and advising taxpayers on options.
• Experience using the AUR system for research and account adjustments.
