About the position

The position involves working in the Taxpayer Services Division of the IRS, where the employee will review and analyze taxpayer returns, process individual or small business returns, and maintain accurate records. The role requires attention to detail and the ability to interpret taxpayer information, as well as providing technical assistance and coaching to others.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze internal documents and taxpayer returns.
• Prepare coded entries to amend and complete records.
• Refer questionable returns and documents to appropriate areas for corrective action.
• Process individual or small business returns and cases involving multiple accounts across tax periods.
• Assign Employee Identification Numbers (EIN) and temporary Social Security Numbers (SSN).
• Request and interpret taxpayer information.
• Perfect documents and initiate research to correct missing or inaccurate account information.
• Compile and maintain functional and assigned area records or reports to provide status of work.
• Serve as a technical advisor, on-the-job coach, classroom instructor, or reviewer.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
• Undergo a review of prior performance/conduct and an income tax verification.
• General Experience: At least one year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work indicating ability to perform the duties of the position.
• Specialized Experience: At least one year of experience performing tasks involving researching and processing financial documents.
