About the position

The Tax Manager position at our Birmingham, MI CPA firm is a hybrid role focused on managing a diverse client base across various industries. The role emphasizes collaboration, inclusivity, and a work-life balance, aiming to keep work hours within a 40-45 hour range year-round. The firm is looking for a candidate who is eager to grow within the company, with the potential to quickly advance to a Partner position. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in public accounting, particularly in business and individual tax, and will be responsible for client management, mentoring team members, and overseeing multiple engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage client relationships and provide direct contact for tax planning and consulting.
  • Research complex tax issues and provide solutions.
  • Train and mentor a team of employees at various levels.
  • Oversee multiple engagements for various clients simultaneously.
  • Handle tax matters for small businesses, partnerships, S-Corps, C-Corps, and individuals.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in public accounting.
  • Active CPA or EA certification.
  • Expertise in business and individual tax for privately held businesses, including HNWIs, partnerships, S-Corps, trusts & estates, and some C-Corps.
  • Experience in training, mentoring, and supervising multi-person teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience reviewing financial statements.
  • Experience with individual tax returns and business tax returns.
