About the position

The Tax Manager, International Tax Services is responsible for advising multinational clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, recommending alternative actions, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations. This role involves managing international tax consulting projects, advising on tax planning, compliance, and research, while also training and developing junior tax associates.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients and BDO client service teams in developing ideas, structures, and transactions focused on international matters.
  • Interpret existing and new tax laws to maximize client benefits and identify the need for expert resources.
  • Coordinate with foreign BDO offices and manage international tax compliance/reporting requirements.
  • Manage client expectations and maintain workplans for tax consulting projects.
  • Identify financial reporting and cash tax impacts of consulting engagements.
  • Apply knowledge of transfer pricing and foreign tax regimes.
  • Conduct research on complex tax situations and prepare detailed reports of findings.
  • Assist in managing client engagements and conduct reviews of international aspects of U.S. tax reporting.
  • Represent clients before the IRS on contested issues as appropriate.
  • Apply standards and assist in reviewing international aspects of tax provisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related business major; Juris Doctorate degree, LLM, or MST/MBT preferred.
  • Four or more years of experience in corporate tax, international tax, or legal professional services.
  • Experience in international tax is required; prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or IRS Enrolled Agent required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with RIA, BNA, Lexis Nexis, or Westlaw preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate complex technical items clearly.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience supervising tax professionals on a project or engagement basis.
