About the position

The Tax Manager role at Cubic Corporation is responsible for overseeing ASC 740 reporting and ensuring compliance with various federal, state, and international tax obligations. This position involves directing staff on larger projects, managing corporate compliance initiatives, and assisting with tax controversies. The role requires a strong understanding of tax accounting and compliance, as well as the ability to work cross-functionally with other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Direct shared tax staff resources and manage larger projects.
  • Train, develop, and mentor staff, providing feedback and assessing performance.
  • Ensure timely delivery of high-quality work products.
  • Prepare and review ASC 740 and FIN 48 calculations and disclosures for domestic entities, assisting with international as needed.
  • Prepare and review return-to-provision adjustments and update processes as necessary.
  • Work cross-functionally to resolve issues with other departments.
  • Prepare and review supporting calculations for federal and state income tax returns prepared by external accounting firms.
  • Analyze complex domestic tax issues, including revenue recognition and depreciation.
  • Assist in managing and reviewing complex calculations, such as R&D Credit.
  • Review quarterly estimated tax and extension payment calculations.
  • Prepare and review general ledger tax accounts and tax expense computations for annual tax provision computations.
  • Manage tax compliance for Cubic entities with external advisors in Canada, Puerto Rico, and Mexico.
  • Assist with US tax controversy and respond to inquiries from business units and tax authorities.
  • Perform and document tax research as required and keep up to date on tax laws and trends.
  • Collaborate with Senior Manager of Tax and outside tax advisors on special projects.

Requirements

  • Four-year college degree in Accounting or Tax preferred.
  • Eight (8)+ years of multinational corporate tax experience.
  • Knowledge of how to perform and document intermediate tax research.
  • Strong knowledge of ASC 740/FIN 48 preferred.
  • Intermediate/Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP system is a plus.
  • Advanced degree and Certified Public Accountant preferred.
  • Big 4, federal or corporate public experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated flexibility in prioritizing and completing tasks under deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills in both written and oral form.
  • Strong accounting and analytical skills, including problem-solving and attention to detail.

  • Experience in a corporate tax environment with a focus on compliance and reporting.
  • Familiarity with international tax compliance and issues.
