About the position

The Tax Manager at Cirrus Aircraft is an in-house tax accounting specialist responsible for managing the company's tax compliance and reporting functions. This role involves coordinating with external CPA firms, ensuring timely tax payments, and maintaining internal controls over tax accounting. The Tax Manager will also assist in tax planning and research to identify potential savings opportunities, while supporting the Chief Financial Officer in analyzing current and future tax liabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Compile data and coordinate preparation of year-end tax provision and federal and state income tax returns with outside service providers.
  • Act as the primary contact with CPA firms for all tax-related matters.
  • Prepare and ensure timely payment of extension and estimated income tax payments.
  • Handle International GST and VAT payments, refunds, and transactions.
  • Assist with R&D credit calculations.
  • Liaise with HR regarding individual tax questions.
  • Ensure internal controls are in place over accounting for income taxes.
  • Manage the Tax Fixed Asset database, reviewing fixed asset additions and retirements for accuracy and generating necessary reports.
  • Support General Ledger and Financial Reporting requirements as needed.
  • Complete monthly/quarterly sales and use tax returns and related payments.
  • Research transactions to determine qualification for sales tax exemption.
  • Oversee issuance of Forms 1099 at year-end.
  • Research newly enacted and proposed legislation for potential impacts on the company's financial position and tax savings opportunities.
  • Assist the Chief Financial Officer with analysis and projects related to current and future tax liabilities.
  • Propose and research tax-saving opportunities and issues specific to the company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Taxation or Accounting; CPA strongly preferred.
  • 7-10 years of corporate tax experience or a combination of tax experience with public accounting.
  • Experience with federal and state tax compliance at a medium-sized company level.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is helpful.
  • International taxation experience is a plus.
  • Prior experience with income tax provisions and preparing and reviewing consolidated federal and state income tax returns.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and tax accounting rules & regulations; IFRS preferred.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks with limited supervision.
  • Consistently able to meet deadlines.
