About the position

The Tax Managing Director is responsible for applying industry specific knowledge to advise clients on the tax implications of their business objections, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations while acting as the primary client contact for complex tax issues. In this role, Tax Managing Director is charged with applying knowledge to understand potential tax issues, and recognizing, communicating potential risks and potential changes in the tax policy and making top-level decisions regarding filing, preparation and resolution of questions from federal / state agencies. In addition, the Tax Managing Director will be critical member of the office / region leadership team and thus will be involved in the direct supervision as either a final or secondary reviewer under the partner. Finally, the Tax Managing Director actively participate in the marketing, networking and business development within an area of expertise and specialization while maintaining client relationships and acting as the primary contact for complex questions.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens.
  • Manages engagements to achieve engagement management metrics.
  • Practices hands-on client service delivery.
  • Responsible for overall client service by encouraging team's adherence to TQM policies.
  • Identifies when research is needed and frames issues to be researched.
  • Identifies complex issues to be researched by engagement team and provides research methodology.
  • Correctly applies Firm policies regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48.
  • Applies technical expertise regarding income tax provisions in international tax and other areas.
  • Assists with developing, recommending, and implementing methods to maximize client benefits.
  • Develops an in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues regarding taxation.
  • Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients or the Firm.
  • Supervises associates, senior associates, and managers as needed.
  • Reviews work prepared by associates and provides feedback.
  • Acts as a Career Advisor to associates and managers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics preferred.
  • Ten (10) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting experience required.
  • CPA certification, Attorney, or IRS Enrolled Agent required.
  • Prior supervisory experience required.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
  • Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
  • Industry expertise in one or more tax specialty preferred.
  • Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role preferred.
