About the position

The Tax Planning Specialist at Grayling Associates, Inc. is responsible for providing comprehensive tax planning services to high-net-worth individuals, families, and businesses. This role involves developing tax-efficient strategies, ensuring compliance with tax regulations, and collaborating with financial advisors to integrate tax strategies into overall wealth management plans. The specialist will also conduct research on tax matters, educate clients on tax implications, and support clients during audits or disputes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop tax-efficient strategies tailored to clients' financial goals, including income tax planning and estate planning.
  • Advise clients on tax-efficient investment strategies and analyze their financial situations to minimize tax liabilities.
  • Collaborate with financial advisors to integrate tax strategies into clients' wealth management plans.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, including timely filing of tax returns.
  • Review and analyze tax returns, identifying opportunities for tax savings and recommending adjustments.
  • Conduct in-depth research on complex tax matters and stay updated on tax law changes.
  • Meet with clients to review their tax planning needs and provide tailored recommendations.
  • Educate clients on the tax implications of various financial strategies and communicate proactively about tax-saving opportunities.
  • Identify and mitigate potential tax risks for clients and assist during IRS audits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • CPA, Enrolled Agent (EA), or JD (Juris Doctor) with a focus on tax law preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in tax planning or advisory, preferably in financial services or tax consulting.
  • Strong knowledge of individual and corporate tax laws, including federal, state, and local tax codes.
  • Experience with tax compliance software and financial planning tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; familiarity with financial planning and tax software platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to explain complex tax concepts to clients.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of international tax issues and cross-border tax planning.
  • Experience with high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and closely-held businesses.
  • Familiarity with philanthropic planning and charitable giving strategies.
