About the position

The Tax Research Analyst position at H&R Block is designed to support tax preparers during the tax season by providing expert assistance on legal and regulatory issues related to tax return preparation. The role involves researching complex tax questions and delivering accurate written responses to help ensure that tax professionals can file accurate returns and achieve optimal tax results for clients. This position is fully remote and requires strong research and writing skills, as well as a solid understanding of tax laws.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate and professional written responses to complex tax law and procedure questions submitted by tax professionals.
• Use research tools and databases to research tax law and regulatory issues.
• Work with teammates and team leads to ensure compliance with service level agreements.
• Provide best-in-class customer service, striving to deliver clear, prompt, and accurate assistance.
• Demonstrate teamwork and maintain a curious mindset.
• Maintain current tax knowledge.

Requirements

• 3 or more years of professional legal or accounting experience, with a strong preference for tax preparation or research experience.
• Ability to research complex tax situations and communicate results in an easily understood manner.
• Willingness to learn new information and skills and to be coached.
• Willingness to work independently and seek assistance when necessary.
• Possess computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Software.
• Access to high-speed internet service.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree in Tax, Business, Accounting, Finance, or other related field.
• Current JD or CPA certification or an appropriate/equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Judicial Clerkship or experience writing memoranda of law.
• Circular 230 designation.
