About the position

The Tax Research Analyst at Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH) is responsible for monitoring and analyzing legislative and regulatory developments related to U.S. income tax withholding and information reporting. This role involves providing technical advice on nonresident alien withholding requirements, developing strategic solutions for tax compliance, and maintaining strong client relationships through effective communication. The position emphasizes collaboration, continuous improvement, and the opportunity for professional growth within a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, review and communicate legislative and regulatory developments in U.S. income tax withholding and information reporting.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance on U.S. nonresident alien withholding and information reporting requirements.
  • Define, develop, and implement strategic solutions for critical tax-related requirements.
  • Assist in the validation of U.S. tax documentation (Forms W-8 and W-9).
  • Liaison with BBH's Responsible Officer on Automatic Exchange of Information (AEOI) discipline.
  • Write, review, and implement procedures to maintain and improve tax compliance activities.
  • Assist in the response and resolution of U.S. information reporting and withholding tax-related IRS or other regulatory matters.
  • Identify and escalate tax-related business, process, and risk issues to senior management.
  • Cultivate and develop excellent client service relationships through proactive communication on tax issues.
  • Identify opportunities to differentiate BBH from market peers through products, services, insights, and innovation.
  • Strengthen team through knowledge sharing and manage process improvement projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of core U.S. income taxation, including requirements related to U.S. residents and nonresident aliens.
  • Experience with U.S. tax reporting, including Forms 1099 and 1042-S.
  • Demonstrated success in translating regulatory guidance into design solutions for risk mitigation.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail when working with high volumes of data.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience in tax, project management, and operating model development.
  • Ability to multitask and manage aspects in a changing requirement.
  • Highly developed organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and under deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Qualified Intermediaries.
  • Knowledge of Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) and Common Reporting Standard (CRS).
