Full-time - Mid Level
Middle City West, PA
Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services

About the position

As a member of our Credits, Incentives and Methods (CIM) group, you will be responsible for providing tax consulting and advisory services around the timing of recognizing revenue, expense, capitalization, cost recovery, and inventory accounting. This role is crucial in navigating regulatory changes, tax planning, optimization, liquidity, and preparation for transactions. Your responsibilities will include conducting accounting method reviews, filing accounting method or period changes, participating in M&A structuring and diligence, writing technical advice memorandums, researching technical filing positions, and broadly interacting with both internal tax professionals and external client stakeholders. In this position, you will focus on two core concepts: your technical and quality expertise and delivering excellent client service. You will oversee the identification, oversight, and technical review of AMP projects, supported by Washington National Tax office (WNT) AMP specialists. This includes managing overall changes, revenue recognition, expense recognition, inventory/UNICAP/LIFO, capitalization/cost recovery, Section 174 R&E expenditures, leasing engagements, and strategic method review projects. You will also oversee the delivery of AMP projects, including 481(a) adjustments, impacts on tax provisions/reserves, and IRS exam support, while managing teams of 2-5 professionals. Your role will require a strong understanding of financial accounting (GAAP; IFRS) and current financial accounting pronouncements. You will research and review tax advice, opinion, and position memorandums in conjunction with WNT team members, as well as review technical memoranda, legal basis disclosures, responses to IRS inquiries, and IRS Ruling requests. Additionally, you will contribute to service offering idea initiation and development in conjunction with WNT, and maintain competency through continuing education and obtaining additional professional certifications, focusing on at least two industries. You will also be responsible for identifying and pursuing AMP services for existing and prospective clients, collaborating with RSM's Growth Acceleration Teams, and building cross-team and cross-line-of-business relationships. Training, mentoring, developing, and growing RSM professionals from intern level up will be a key part of your responsibilities, as well as building rapport with RSM Managers, Sr. Managers, and Partners/Principals.
