About the position

The Tax Planning Specialist role at Empower's Personal Wealth business is designed for professionals looking to move beyond traditional tax return preparation. This position focuses on helping clients navigate their tax planning considerations, collaborating with team members to review client tax situations, and consulting directly with clients and advisors on tax strategies. The role emphasizes proactive engagement with clients to manage their financial lives in a tax-efficient manner, while staying updated on tax law changes.

Responsibilities

  • Help clients understand their current tax situation and identify planning opportunities for efficiencies.
  • Empower clients to make informed decisions regarding their tax planning.
  • Collaborate with internal Planning Specialists on tax and wealth transfer matters, charitable giving, and unique transaction strategies.
  • Stay updated on tax law changes and communicate their effects to advisors and clients.

Requirements

  • Active CPA license is required.
  • 4+ years of high net worth (HNW) experience required.
  • Experience with tax planning technologies.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and BNA Income Tax Planner.
  • Advanced research skills to assist in providing solutions for complex client issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in taxation is a plus.
  • A strong desire to engage and effectively communicate with clients daily.
  • A strong entrepreneurial mindset to contribute ideas for scaling services efficiently.
