About the position

The Senior Meeting Planner at the American Bar Association (ABA) is responsible for independently managing and planning complex conferences in alignment with the organization's strategic goals. This role involves overseeing all aspects of event logistics, including hotel selection, vendor negotiations, budget development, and on-site management of events. The position requires collaboration with volunteers and program committees to ensure successful execution of conferences and events, while also managing a team of meeting coordinators.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and plan complex conferences including site selection, contract negotiations, budget development, and project timelines.
  • Direct management of meeting coordinator or planner for daily operations of team event planning.
  • Manage logistics for entity-wide events including scheduling, space assignments, group activities, catering, and vendor communications.
  • Travel to and independently manage conferences and events, including CLE accreditation process, speakers, on-site staff, and vendor communications.
  • Manage and coordinate member/volunteer responsibilities and deadlines for assigned conferences.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent experience.
  • 3-6 years of meeting planning and management experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Some marketing experience preferred.
  • CMP (Certified Meeting Professional) preferred.
