About the position

The Single Family Performance Specialist at the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) is responsible for implementing and overseeing the Department's Single Family Programs, primarily the HOME Program. This role involves reviewing household eligibility for housing assistance, providing technical assistance to organizations and the public, and ensuring compliance with program guidelines. The specialist will also evaluate the performance of organizations providing affordable housing and assist in program design and marketing efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Review information submitted by participating organizations to ensure household program eligibility.
  • Provide guidance and oversight during construction improvements, including reviews of scope of work and construction inspection reports.
  • Ensure timely reviews and compliance with documentation requirements.
  • Verify that construction outcomes conform to program guidelines and administrative codes.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to organizations regarding single family housing program requirements.
  • Evaluate the performance of organizations and maintain effective communication with grant recipients.
  • Recommend changes or corrective actions to organizations and guide them in implementing effective procedures.
  • Assist in developing program design and executing discussions for existing and new programs.
  • Educate other divisions about SF Programs and cross-train in other sections as needed.
  • Assist management in reviewing and developing program marketing and training materials.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in public administration, business administration, planning, or social services.
  • Experience with management or monitoring of contracts is preferred.
  • Experience in the administration of a state or federal housing program is preferred.
  • Experience working with local governments, nonprofit organizations, or councils of government is preferred.
  • Technical knowledge of federal or state programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with federal or state housing programs is highly preferred.
  • Ability to gather, assemble, correlate, and analyze facts.
  • Proficient knowledge in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a salary range of $4,850.00 - $5,333.34 per month.
  • Regular work schedule of 40 hours per week.
