About the position

The Claims Examiner I position at the Texas Department of Insurance involves performing routine disability determination and workers compensation work. The role includes preparing legal documents, maintaining electronic files, and assisting in dispute resolution processes. The position requires attention to detail and the ability to work under moderate supervision while adhering to agency policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and proofread legal and administrative documents including contested case hearing decisions and orders.
  • Assist in the maintenance of electronic files and document scanning, storage, and retrieval.
  • Prepare administrative reports as needed.
  • Assist in scheduling and prioritizing attorney caseloads; organize case files; prepare chronologies and fact summaries.
  • Interpret rules, regulations, policies, and procedures for agency staff and the general public.
  • Handle Requests for Copies of Confidential Claimant Information (DWC153).
  • Prepare and distribute correspondence, reports, forms, and documents.
  • Assist in coordinating, assembling, and preparing hearing records and related correspondence.
  • Research, index scanned documents, and resolve quality issues through research, correction, and resubmission of documents.
  • Data enter forms related to dispute resolution within mandated time frames.
  • Provide efficient customer service related to informal and formal dispute resolution, orders, formal requests, motions, and subpoenas.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One year experience in office practices and administrative procedures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in disability determination, workers compensation claims processing, health care or social work environment, paralegal and/or dispute resolution.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
