About the position

The Teacher position at Newton County School System is a full-time role based in Covington, GA, where the individual will report directly to the Principal or Assistant Principal. The primary responsibility of the teacher is to instruct students in accordance with the Georgia Performance Standards, utilizing effective research-based instructional strategies. The teacher is expected to support students in building background knowledge that aids in their acquisition of these standards, while also integrating instructional technology into their teaching practices. The role requires a commitment to being present at work every day, on time, and performing all assigned duties effectively and efficiently. In addition to teaching one or more subjects, the teacher will plan and implement appropriate long and short-range objectives for each assigned course. Regular assessment of student abilities in relation to educational goals is crucial, as is the effective management of student behavior to create a conducive learning environment. The teacher will work collaboratively with other educators, maintaining accurate student grade and attendance records, and ensuring ongoing communication with parents regarding student progress and behavior. The role may also involve supervising teacher assistants, participating in faculty meetings, and contributing to a positive workplace atmosphere. The teacher is expected to meet the performance and behavioral expectations set by the principal and perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall educational mission of the school system.

Responsibilities

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
• Valid Georgia teaching certificate.
• Ability to relate well to students, parents, and co-workers.
• Pass a content knowledge test acceptable to the PSC or provide documentation for exemption.
