About the position

The Teacher for Art (Grades 6-8) at Passaic Board of Education is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in art to middle school students. This role involves planning and implementing lessons that align with district curriculum and educational standards, fostering a positive and supportive learning environment, and assessing student progress. The teacher will collaborate with colleagues and engage in professional development to enhance instructional practices and contribute to the overall school community.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver instruction consistent with district programs of study, curriculum, and instructional guidelines.
  • Deliver instructional practice and pedagogy consistent with the approved curriculum and which meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students through the creation and support of a positive learning environment.
  • Provide a nurturing, supportive and positive classroom climate that encourages student responsibility.
  • Evaluate and grade classwork, homework, assignments, and tests in a timely fashion, providing feedback to the student on performance.
  • Accurately maintain appropriate student records and submit required reports within designated time limits.
  • Assess pupils in accordance with district testing policy and program; interpret the results and utilize the information obtained for planning instruction.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow faculty members to analyze and use student data to inform instruction leading to increased student achievement.
  • Assist in curriculum development and in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Communicate effectively and use excellent written and oral skills when communicating with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.

Requirements

  • Hold a valid New Jersey instructional certificate with appropriate endorsement(s).
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, instructional content, effective instructional strategies, and classroom management.
  • 1 year of teaching experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in teaching art or related subjects.
  • Familiarity with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Participation in extracurricular activities.
