About the position

The Malden High School Community is dedicated to providing a diverse, student-centered, and rigorous curriculum that caters to all learning styles and needs. As an urban school, we take pride in being leaders in Advanced Placement courses within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Our commitment to excellence is reflected in our ongoing collaboration with the BARR Foundation, which has enabled us to conduct a comprehensive review of our academic offerings, instructional methods, curriculum, student data, and school-wide focus on areas of need. This data-driven approach has led us to prioritize improving the transition from middle school to high school and to establish a clear vision for our students as they progress through high school, preparing them for college and career opportunities. In addition to our academic focus, Malden High School offers a wide array of enrichment opportunities for students, including Division 1 varsity, junior varsity, and freshman level athletics, as well as robust theater, choral, and band programs. Recognizing the diverse needs of our student population, particularly the increasing number of English Language Learners, we are committed to regularly examining and implementing various programs and methods to ensure academic success for all students. As an Art Teacher, you will play a crucial role in fostering creativity and artistic expression among students, while also contributing to the overall mission of Malden High School to provide a comprehensive and inclusive educational experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement engaging art curriculum for students in grades 9-12.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages creativity and self-expression.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to integrate art into the broader curriculum.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and needs.

Requirements

  • DESE licensed in Art 9-12 required.
  • Experience in teaching art at the high school level is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to create a diverse and inclusive classroom environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with English Language Learners.
  • Familiarity with Advanced Placement art courses.
