About the position

The Art Teacher position at Madison County Schools is designed to foster students' artistic expression and creativity in the visual arts. Responsibilities

  • Develop and administer school art curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, translating them into effective learning experiences.
  • Teach knowledge and skills in various art forms including crafts, drawing, painting, and art history to secondary students.
  • Provide instruction that helps students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciation for art.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student skills and modify instructional methods to meet individual needs.
  • Demonstrate techniques in drawing, painting, and modeling using instructional aids.
  • Organize class time to balance instruction, demonstration, and working time.
  • Instruct students in the proper care and use of art tools and equipment.
  • Evaluate student performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understanding, preparing progress reports.
  • Plan and present art displays and exhibitions to showcase student work.
  • Continue professional development through seminars, workshops, and research.
  • Maintain accurate records for student activities, achievement, and attendance as required.
  • Encourage parental involvement and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Coordinate with other school staff and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Select and requisition appropriate art materials and maintain inventory records.

Requirements

  • Valid Mississippi Educator License with endorsement code: 102.
  • MS State Certification as an Art Teacher or as required for the position.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.
  • Knowledge of current art instructional teaching methods and educational pedagogy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in teaching art at the high school level.
