About the position

The Special Education Teacher Assistant at Wasatch Elementary plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with special needs. This position involves assisting the special education teacher in various areas, including instructional support, management and supervision, personal support, assessment, and materials management. The role is designed to enhance the educational experience of students requiring special education services.

Responsibilities

• Assist the special education teacher in implementing student IEPs.
• Provide instructional support to students in the classroom.
• Help manage and supervise students during activities.
• Offer personal support to students as needed.
• Assist in the assessment of student progress and needs.
• Manage and organize educational materials.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent education and/or experience.
• Completion of district inservice training (required after hiring).
• Basic knowledge of academic subjects.
• Substitution or equivalent experience preferred.
• Specific skills required depend on the assignment and student needs.

Nice-to-haves

• Two years (48 semester hours) of full-time education at an institution of higher education or an associate's degree.
• Ability to pass a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test.
