About the position
The Teacher Assistant at Devereux's CARES School plays a crucial role in supporting students with autism and other developmental disabilities. This position involves working collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to implement educational interventions based on applied behavior analysis and positive behavior supports. The role emphasizes creating a safe and conducive learning environment while focusing on the individual strengths and needs of each student.
Responsibilities
- Ensure student safety
- Assist in establishing classroom environments conducive to maximum learning
- Guide students to socially appropriate behaviors
- Work with Special Education Teachers to implement skill acquisition and behavioral reduction programs
- Perform ongoing data collection and record keeping as directed by Special Education Teacher
- Support and reinforce PBIS goals and objectives
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education preferred
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and/or behavior disorders preferred
