About the position

The Teacher Assistant for Early 2's at Central New Mexico Community College plays a crucial role in supporting the lead teacher in the planning and implementation of a daily bilingual curriculum at the SFCC Kids Campus. This position is dedicated to fostering the learning and development of young children while addressing the diverse needs and interests of their families across various classrooms. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to serving a diverse community and actively participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives. The role involves a variety of responsibilities, including assisting in curriculum development, maintaining a safe and engaging environment for children, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards. In this position, the Teacher Assistant will assist lead teachers in documenting activities, preparing daily logs, and completing portfolios. They will also help set up materials and equipment for daily activities, ensuring that each child is involved and safe. Daily tasks include maintaining sanitation procedures, supervising children during routines, preparing meals, and assisting with diaper changes and potty training. The Teacher Assistant will also be responsible for preparing children for outdoor play and supervising them on the playground. Additionally, they will assist with home visits for Early Pre-K/Pre-K children and support the lead teacher in data collection and assessments. The role requires effective communication with families, compliance with NAEYC, ECECD, CACFP, and other licensing requirements, and the ability to fulfill lead teacher responsibilities in their absence. Participation in professional development related to the bilingual curriculum and accreditation standards is also required. Overall, this position is integral to creating a nurturing and educational environment for young children at SFCC Kids Campus.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Lead Teachers in planning and implementing a daily bilingual curriculum.
  • Documents activities, prepares daily logs and incident reports, and completes portfolios.
  • Sets up materials and equipment for daily activities.
  • Ensures the safety, involvement, and creativity of each child in the group.
  • Maintains sanitation and daily cleaning procedures; sanitizes toys, classroom furniture, and surfaces.
  • Performs laundry and washes dishes.
  • Supervises children and assists them in all daily routines.
  • Prepares formula for bottles and feeds meals for babies.
  • Assists teachers in the preparation and serving of meals following CACFP regulations.
  • Sets out and cleans up mats and cots for nap time.
  • Changes children's diapers and assists with potty training.
  • Prepares children for outdoor playtime and helps with clothing and sunscreen application.
  • Supervises children on the playground.
  • Assists Lead Teacher with home visits for Early Pre-K/Pre-K children.
  • Helps with children's portfolios, data collection, and ASQs assessments.
  • Provides coverage in the classroom for staff breaks and lunches.
  • Communicates effectively with families in person and in writing.
  • Complies with all NAEYC, ECECD, CACFP, and other licensing and regulation requirements.
  • Fulfills the responsibilities and duties of the Lead Teacher in their absence.
  • Attends required Professional Development for the Kids Campus Bilingual Curriculum, NAEYC accreditation, NM PreK and ECECD regulations.
