About the position

The Teacher Assistant position at Heritage Elementary School of Richlands is designed to support classroom teachers and enhance the educational experience of students. The role involves working closely with children, assisting in their learning and development, and ensuring a safe and productive classroom environment. The Teacher Assistant will be responsible for implementing instructional activities as directed by the classroom teacher, providing both group and individualized instruction to meet the diverse needs of students. This position requires a strong understanding of effective methods for engaging with children and a solid knowledge of core subjects at the grade level. In addition to instructional support, the Teacher Assistant will play a vital role in classroom management, helping to maintain discipline and a positive learning atmosphere. Responsibilities include preparing instructional materials, assessing student work, and monitoring student behavior and progress. The Teacher Assistant will also assist in the integration of technology into the classroom, supporting students in their digital learning experiences. The position demands a high level of ethical behavior and professionalism, as the Teacher Assistant will serve as a role model for students. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work collaboratively with other school personnel, maintain confidentiality regarding student information, and demonstrate composure in challenging situations. The role requires physical activity, including the ability to lift and assist students as needed, and to facilitate student safety during emergencies. This position is a full-time role for the 2024-2025 school year, with a term of employment lasting 10 months.

Responsibilities

  • Follows all rules, policies, and procedures of OCS, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to school issues.
  • Assists in classroom/student management and maintaining discipline.
  • Gives group instruction as prescribed by teacher.
  • Provides individualized instruction.
  • Demonstrates various instructional activities.
  • Prepares visual aids and instructional materials.
  • Assesses student work as instructed by teacher.
  • Assists in recording student behavior, progress, and other related data.
  • Constantly monitors the safety and well-being of students in all areas of the school environment.
  • Distributes and collects instructional materials.
  • Assists students with digital age learning in the classroom.
  • Encourages and supports academic growth of students.
  • Models and promotes high level of ethical and appropriate behavior.
  • Assists with the needs of all students to include exceptional students.
  • Performs other related duties, as required or assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Two year Associate's Degree in Education preferred.
  • Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university required (must include an emphasis in mathematics, reading, writing and content knowledge).
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA required.
  • ETTP course completion and dated certificate must be obtained within the first school year of employment.
