About the position

The Teacher Assistant for Virtual HS Classroom at Jackson County Public Schools is a full-time, non-exempt position designed to support the virtual learning environment for high school students. This role is temporary for the 2024-2025 school year and requires a commitment of 40 hours per week. The successful candidate will work closely with the Elevate virtual teacher to ensure that the classroom operates smoothly and effectively. The position requires a high school diploma and at least two years of higher education or an associate's degree, along with compliance with NCLB legislation. Experience working with children is preferred but not mandatory. As a Classroom Coach, the Teacher Assistant will be responsible for various duties that include logging into the Elevate portal to stream live classes, maintaining student routines, and assisting with online instruction. The role also involves mentoring students, managing classroom behavior, and ensuring that all necessary equipment and resources are in place for the virtual classroom. The Teacher Assistant will need to complete Elevate K-12 Classroom Coach training before the first day of class and will be expected to communicate effectively with both students and the Elevate teacher. In addition to these responsibilities, the Teacher Assistant will monitor student activities to ensure safety, attend preparation sessions and in-services to enhance their skills, and handle any technical issues that arise during class. The position also requires the printing of worksheets and notes in advance and performing emergency tasks as directed by school policies. This role is crucial in providing a supportive and effective learning environment for students engaged in virtual education.

Responsibilities

  • Login to the Elevate portal and stream the teacher live at the start of each class.
  • Maintain student routines and performance to assist virtual teachers' instruction.
  • Be a mentor and leader to students.
  • Work closely with your school to ensure everything is set up for the elevate classroom (equipment, class layout, and student devices).
  • Complete Elevate K-12 Classroom Coach training prior to class day one.
  • Help students login to the Elevate platform from their computer/device so they can work with instructors online.
  • Manage the in-classroom behavior while supporting online instruction.
  • Download student grade reports as frequently as your school admin requires and input grades into the school system if required.
  • Interact/communicate with the instructor prior to the first session during an orientation meeting to discuss class routines and any school nuances.
  • Monitor student activities and keep students safe.
  • Attend Elevate preparation sessions, seminars, and in-services as needed to improve knowledge and skills.
  • Responsible for communicating any issues with the Elevate tech team during the class via the Fresh Chat feature.
  • Use classroom materials and equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Print any worksheets and/or notes for a lesson in advance and communicate with the Elevate teacher to prepare for lessons each week.
  • Perform emergency tasks and procedures in the classroom as needed and directed per school and Elevate policies.

Requirements

  • High School graduate with completion of at least two years of higher education or completion of an associate's degree.
  • Compliance with NCLB legislation required.
  • Experience working with children preferred.
