The Teacher Assistant I position at Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission involves supporting the Teacher in implementing educational curriculum goals and activities for preschool children, ensuring a safe and healthy environment, and engaging with parents as per Head Start Program Performance Standards. The role requires active participation in classroom routines, documentation, and promoting parent engagement, while also providing feedback on children's development.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Teacher in implementing educational curriculum goals and objectives.
  • Provide a safe and healthy environment for children as per regulations.
  • Supervise children visually at all times.
  • Assist in daily tasks such as toileting, meals, and room setup.
  • Help plan activities and implement the curriculum.
  • Support children in reaching individual goals, including those with disabilities.
  • Participate in daily classroom routines and record-keeping.
  • Observe children and provide feedback for assessments.
  • Complete classroom documentation tasks like sign-in/out and meal service.
  • Assume leadership in the absence of the Teacher as assigned.
  • Participate in home visits and parent/teacher conferences as needed.
  • Act as an interpreter when appropriate.
  • Attend scheduled meetings and required trainings.
  • Work at additional centers/classrooms as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with universal precautions and confidentiality.
  • Promote parent/family engagement in program activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Twelve units in Child Development/Early Childhood Education required.
  • California Associate's Teacher Permit required within 90 days of employment.
  • Continuous enrollment in college until completion of Associate's Degree in CD/ECE or related field required within two years of employment.
  • Twelve months' work experience with preschool age children preferred.
  • Effective presentation, written, and verbal communication skills required.
  • COVID-19 vaccination required within 60 days of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
  • Former Head Start 0 to 5 parents preferred.
