About the position

The Teacher Assistant at Kennebec Valley Community Action Program (KVCAP) plays a vital role in supporting the developmental progress and school readiness of children aged 6 weeks to 3 years at the Skowhegan Early Head Start (SEHS) location. This position involves working collaboratively within a team to create a safe and nurturing environment for young children, particularly as the program prepares to transition to a new building in Fall 2025, which will expand its capacity to serve more families.

Responsibilities

  • Support children's developmental progress and school readiness.
  • Provide responsive caregiving in the Infant/Toddler rooms.
  • Assist with child assessments and individualize learning for diverse learners.
  • Support the implementation of Creative Curriculum and other curricula.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year experience in a group care setting with young children.
  • Ability to meet agency and State Child Care Licensing regulations for background checks and physical exams.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Critical thinking and basic computer skills.
  • Group management skills.
  • For Tier I: Must be eligible for Ed Tech II certification from the Department of Education.
  • For Tier II: Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education with knowledge of Head Start standards and Licensing regulations.
